Creating Saxon Jewellery

At the Museum we viewed some real artefacts which are primary sources for history learning. We wanted to make replicas to act as secondary sources so that other people can understand about the Anglo Saxon way of life too. So, we used our art skills to design and make authentic jewellery using clay. What do you think of our designs so far? We’ll paint them on Friday so check back to find the finished artefacts.

The Staffordshire Hoard at Birmingham Museum

Wow! We couldn’t believe the amazing artefacts that we saw at Birmingham Museum. The Staffordshire Hoard was unearthed six years ago when a man discovered it with his metal detector in a field! The Birmingham museum staff have cleaned and analysed the treasure and found it to be Anglo Saxon! They have estimated its value to be 3.3 million pounds! Have I missed any facts?

As well as visiting the exhibition, we reenacted an excavation and practised our art skills by doing some metal work!

Picasso Inspired Portraits

In art, we’ve been studying the famous Spanish artist, Picasso. Look at the portraits we’ve created inspired by Picasso’s cubist period. We drew two portraits from different angles and then coloured them using oil pastels. Then we cut them into parts and re-pieced them together again. We did this because in some of Picasso’s work he includes figures drawn from different angles which are then put together in one final piece.

Sculptures, Romans and ThrustSSC all in one day!

Year 4 went to visit two of Coventry’s Museums today.

At the Herbert Art Gallery we learned about sculptures and created our own in the style of a local artist.
If you know the name post it on the blog post.
Then as we went for lunch we came across Roman Soldiers in Broadgate in the centre of town! They ordered us into two lines and took us on a parade. luckily we remembered from Year 3 how to march!
At the Transport Museum we experienced Thrust SSC in the simulator and magpied ideas for our spy mobiles.
If you remember the name of ThrustSSC pilot post it below.

Wool you help us…

For Art we are doing weaving, it would be really helpful if any parents have odd, or old wool that we can have to add to our collection for weaving.

Also we need some cereal boxes for the card if you finish any boxes before Friday please bring them in.

Many thanks

Year 4 teachers.
